1. Information We Collect
When you create an account on Sportacus, we collect:
- Account information: Name, email address, username, password, date of birth, and role (athlete, coach, or fan).
- Profile information: Avatar, bio, sport preferences, athletic profile data you choose to publish (height, weight, graduation year, GPA, highlight reels), and coaching credentials submitted for verification.
- Usage data: Posts, votes (Fact or Cap), comments, communities joined, messages sent, search queries, and feature interactions.
- Device information: Device type, operating system, app version, push notification tokens, and IP address.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and improve the Sportacus platform and its features.
- Connect athletes with verified coaches through the RAEDA recruiting feature, based on the profile information athletes choose to publish.
- Send notifications about activity, messages, and platform updates.
- Enforce our Community Standards and keep the platform safe, including automated screening of messages and reported content.
- Generate aggregated, de-identified analytics, trends, and leaderboards.
- Process payments for paid subscriptions.
3. Advertising
Sportacus may show advertising to support the free platform. Our advertising rules are stricter for minors and are not subject to change for commercial reasons:
- Users under 18: Any advertising shown is contextual only — matched to the content on the screen, never to the individual user. We do not build behavioral advertising profiles of minors, do not use minors' personal data for ad targeting, and do not permit gambling or sports-betting advertisers on surfaces available to minors.
- All users: We never sell personal data to advertisers or data brokers. Advertisers may receive aggregate, de-identified reporting only.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:
- Other users: Your public profile, posts, and votes are visible to other users. Athletes control privacy settings for their recruiting profiles, which are published by the athlete — Sportacus does not publish recruiting profiles on anyone's behalf.
- Verified coaches: Coaches who pass our verification process may view athlete profile information the athlete has made available for recruiting.
- Service providers: We use Firebase and Google Analytics for Firebase (Google) for authentication, database, analytics, and hosting; Stripe for payment processing; Expo for push notifications; and may use Anthropic (Claude) to support certain platform features. Third-party sports data providers supply live scores and game data.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users, including reports to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where required.
5. Messaging & Automated Screening
Messages sent through Sportacus — including coach-to-athlete outreach — are automatically screened for content that violates our Community Standards, including personal contact information and unsafe behavior. Coach-to-athlete communication is limited to pre-written templates with restricted fields; free-text messages from coaches to athletes are not supported. Screening decisions and message identifiers are logged for safety and moderation; we do not use the content of private messages to build advertising profiles.
6. Children's Privacy
Sportacus is intended for users age 13 and older. Users under 13 may not create accounts; if we learn an account belongs to a user under 13, we will remove it and delete the associated personal data.
For users under 18, we apply additional safeguards:
- Only verified coaches may contact athletes, and only through pre-written message templates with restricted, screened fields — never free text.
- Athletes control what appears in their recruiting profile and can block or report any coach at any time.
- Advertising, where shown, is contextual only (see Section 3); we do not build behavioral profiles of minors and never sell minors' data.
- Public posts and claims naming or identifying a specific minor are prohibited and removed.
7. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate safety and fraud-prevention purposes.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access and download your personal data.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Opt out of push notifications and email communications.
- Control who can view your profile through privacy settings.

9. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS), secure authentication (Firebase Auth), and server-side access controls. However, no method of electronic transmission is 100% secure.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. Continued use of Sportacus after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
